Case Studies

Minneapolis Public School District

Minneapolis Public Schools sought to enhance computational thinking and instructional coaching for 2nd and 8th-grade science teachers.

WhyMaker provided technical PD training on Sphero robots, helping educators plan units and projects to support long-term implementation.

  • Trained 96 teachers through virtual and in-person coaching
  • Reached 2,500 students through educator-led instruction
  • Provided personalized training for 4 Library/Media Specialists and 2 STEM Coordinators
  • Created a Learning Hub with:
  • Videos, lesson plans, and instructional guides

Ursuline Academy

Ursuline Academy, an all-girls Catholic school in New Rochelle, NY, wanted to equip teachers with strategies to teach Computer Science, Computational Thinking, and Robotics within Math and Science courses.

WhyMaker trained educators and developed curriculum and resources to support hands-on technology integration.

  • Trained 8 teachers to incorporate robotics and computational thinking into their lessons
  • Impacted 800 students through new technology-driven coursework
  • Designed three semester-long Computer Science courses
  • Developed four content-based projects integrating Robotics into Math and Science
  • Trained technology teachers on Edison Robots and classroom management strategies

Facilitated the purchase of 40 Edison Robots for middle school student use

Global Learning Collaborative High School

Global Learning Collaborative, a public high school in NYC, sought Computer Science coaching to improve teacher effectiveness in emerging technologies.

WhyMaker provided ongoing coaching and instructional support, helping educators integrate: 

  • Python, Robotics, Drones, 3D Printing, and AI into their classrooms.
  • Supported best instructional practices for teaching Computer Science
  • Helped educators implement new technologies into student learning
  • Provided hands-on coaching on coding, robotics, and emerging tech

Collaboration with StonyBrook University, Haugland Group and Suffolk County

WhyMaker partnered with Stony Brook University, Haugland Group, and Suffolk County to design an energy-focused internship program for high school students.

  • Developed a two-week summer internship program introducing students to energy careers
  • Designed instructional materials and career-connected curriculum covering:
  • HVDC systems, energy generation, solar converters, EV charging stations, cabling, coding systems, hardware loop systems, workplace essential skills and more.
  • Provided expert instruction and interactive classroom sessions 
  • Students gained hands-on experience through job site trips, guest speakers, special tours, and networking opportunities 

Due to the program’s success, WhyMaker is currently expanding the program to multi-week summer internships for high school and college students.
