Job Description

WhyMaker is looking for student teachers to teach hands-on STEM curriculum to students grades 6-9 in the Niagara region. Successful candidates will teach students in school, after-school, weekend, and summer learning environments. The curriculum includes a pre-developed series of 90-minute clean energy lessons with hands-on activities. Lessons are modified for each age group, however, educators will need to adapt and customize each lesson to meet the needs of each differing learning environment. 

SKILLS

  • Implement hands-on STEM lesson plans and group activities
  • Make connections and build relationships with students 
  • Create an interactive and engaging learning environment
  • Problem solver who can manage the needs of the students
  • Customize lesson plans and presentations ahead of time
  • Excellent professional communication
  • Excellent teaching skills and presentation
  • Flexible to changes in schedules
  • Liaise with on-site program managers to ensure smooth implementation
  • Organize and transport hands-on activity kits and additional materials 
  • Set-up and clean-up of materials for each program
  • Punctual, organized and prepared
  • Open to feedback and modifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience teaching STEM and hands-on lessons required 
  • Must have transportation within 50 miles of your home in New York State (WhyMaker will cover transportation expenses for longer distances) 
  • Proficient in Google Suite
  • Student working to ward NYS Teaching certificate
  • New York State background checks and fingerprinting required

SALARY RANGE

  • W9 position
  • Part-time, as necessary
  • $40-$50 per hour

This is a freelance opportunity. Preparation hours will be flexible, but you are required to be present during scheduled class times. Times of classes will vary throughout the week, including after school, evenings, weekends, and summers. Teaching will take place in person in the Niagra region.
