Why Teach Robotics?
Share
Teaching Robotics has always been one of my favorite projects to work on with students. Their sheer excitement when a robot works can brighten anyone's day.
Here are 4 educational reasons why you should start teaching robotics in your classroom.

1. Hands-on engagement in Computer Science
Instead of sitting at a computer screen watching little characters move across or even worse, print function (boring, 8); robotics has kids interacting with physical objects. They do something on a computer screen and interact with the results in the real world.
2. Robotics shows creativity in different ways
Students think differently about how to solve the robotics challenges. This is where they are allowed to be creative. Everyone has the potential to be creative and robotics proves to students that this true.

3. Differentiation is the ONLY option
When faced with the same open ended robotics challenges, students come up with different solutions. The differences in solutions are what make our world unique. When everyone is allowed to explore a solution the way they think is best, it naturally differentiation. This is what I believe we truly hope for when we talk about differentiation in education.

4. Teamwork is natural
There is no way a robotics challenge can be mastered alone. Students need to bounce ideas off of each other, push each other to try new methods. Even though students may be independently working on their robots, they look to their peers for assistance when they get stuck. They look at their peers code and try to replicate it. This natural curiosity and collaboration is what will propel students to be able to work together.

Time to get started! What are you nervous about teaching robotics in your classroom? We can help!
Our Robotics Workshops at WhyMaker focus on teaching how to use the robotics platform and how to incorporate it into current classroom environments. Our trainers are well equipped and experienced in many different robotics platforms. We provide workshops on whatever robotics systems you have at your school. Send us a message and let us know what robotics systems you are interested in learning how to use.
